I might refer to the article I have open right now. It’s by Chalmers Johnson who’s a former intelligence dude (is that right?) and specialist on Japan and East Asia (I’m not confirming this at this precise sec - Japan, Okinawa). Anyhoo, he wrote a great book called “Blowback” some years ago about the costs of US foreign policy in terms of what would ‘blow back’ upon them. In the standard hubis of the pre twin towers hit it was ignored. Straight after it became a big hit. He’s one of those honest writers who’s very useful to read even if you have a good grasp on what’s going on.
